How to get the bus to Coronet Peak Ski Field from Queenstown
Date: 18th April 2018
Coronet Peak opened in 1947 as New Zealand’s first commercial ski field and has led the way ever since, pioneering night skiing in New Zealand and New Zealand’s longest ski day with First Tracks.
Coronet Peak is only 25 minutes from central Queenstown (yep, that’s quicker than you can get a burger downtown).
We sends one bus to the Coronet Peak every day, with 25 different pick up locations within Central Queenstown, no extra charges. With our furthest pick up being the Aspen Hotel in Fernhill at 8:05am, Our pick up locations are either in front of the hotel/hostel receptions or at a bus stop near the accommodation.
Our bus will get you to the Ski field before 9 am for when the lifts have opened. To book and to check your exact pick up time and location from your accommodation please refer to our Ski Bus Transport Page or call our shop on : 03 4425958, which is opens from 7:00am – 9pm everyday.
For all of our pick ups it is important to be there 10 minutes before the pick up time, as in order to get to and down from the Coronet Peak on time our bus does not wait for long.
It’s important to bring the right gear with you as you head up the mountain, here’s a brief list to get you started :
- Snacks and drinks – always stay hyrdrated up the mountain
- Goggles or sunglasses
- Masks in case it’s too cold
- and of course your skis or snowboard
Within the Coronet Peak base there is a café with hot food and drink and free water dispensers but we always advise to bring some snacks and water to keep you hydrated and full of energy throughout the day.
You can rent Skis and Snowboard gear on the mountain if you wish, however it is more expensive to do so on the mountain instead of in town. If you are looking to hire out Skis or Snowboard we offer hires at very competitive rates, and as an added bonus you can leave the skis/snowboards in our shop, and we will put them on the bus for you for the next day. Hassle free.
Our bus transport will leave the coronet peak area before returning for pick up therefore it is really important to make sure you have all your belongings off the bus before getting off. If you have belongings to store, there are lockers you can rent for the within the ski base or if you are comfortable many guests leave their backpacks on the floor outside the main building, which is normally safe just make sure you are not blocking any exits or causing any hazards..
After your adrenline filled day out on the slopes you’ll be wanting to head back to town to rest up for your next session. Our bus leaves the Coronet ski field at 4 pm when some of the ski lifts have closed, if you decide to come back down early or stay for the night skiing, you can catch NZSKI shuttle back down.
Please always let our driver or our shop (phone: 03 4425958) know that you are coming down early or late, otherwise we might send a rescue team looking for you if you do not appear for the bus.
